Guest contribution by Daniel Conklin, Executive Director, Luxera Travel
There are certain moments in travel that permanently redefine a client’s expectations. One of those moments happens long before the aircraft ever leaves the ground.
A client pulls up to a private terminal, steps inside, is greeted by name, hands off their luggage, and within minutes is walking directly onto their aircraft. No crowded terminal. No boarding groups. No rushing from gate to gate. Just a calm, seamless beginning to what will likely become one of the most memorable journeys of their life.
When they return home, many of them say some version of the same thing:
“I had no idea travel could feel like this.”
Those conversations are one of the reasons I believe private jet journeys deserve a place in every luxury travel advisor’s portfolio. Not because they’re the most expensive trips we sell, but because they represent something much more meaningful. They fundamentally change the way clients think about travel, and they demonstrate the kind of value that simply can’t be replicated through an online booking engine.
Why This Market Matters
Private jet journeys occupy a fascinating space within luxury travel.
Rather than chartering an entire aircraft, guests join a small group traveling aboard a privately configured aircraft on carefully designed itineraries spanning multiple countries over the course of two to four weeks. Every detail—from accommodations and transportation to dining, sightseeing, and logistics—is thoughtfully coordinated, allowing travelers to experience destinations that would be extraordinarily difficult to combine independently.
For advisors, the opportunity is compelling.
The price point naturally translates into significant commissions, with many itineraries beginning well into six figures per guest and some around-the-world departures exceeding that substantially. Limited departures and small group sizes also create genuine scarcity, encouraging clients to make decisions well in advance rather than waiting indefinitely.
More importantly, however, these journeys tend to deepen relationships.
Clients who entrust you with a trip of this magnitude aren’t simply purchasing a vacation. They’re placing an extraordinary level of trust in your expertise, and those relationships often extend far beyond a single booking.
💡 TARC Tip: The high price point of private jet journeys isn’t just about the luxury; it’s about the scarcity and the profound trust it builds. Treat these bookings as the foundation for lifelong client retention.
What Clients Are Really Buying
When advisors describe private jet journeys, it’s easy to focus on the aircraft.
In reality, the aircraft is only part of the story.
Yes, clients avoid commercial terminals by departing through private aviation facilities (FBOs), dramatically simplifying the airport experience. Boarding is efficient, luggage handling is seamless throughout the journey, and carefully planned flight schedules allow guests to maximize their time exploring rather than navigating airports.
What they’re really purchasing is effortless movement.
Instead of wondering how to connect remote destinations across multiple continents, they simply arrive. Instead of managing logistics every few days, someone else has already done it. Instead of spending valuable vacation time coordinating transfers, checking into hotels, and tracking baggage, they’re fully present in the experience itself.
The aircraft becomes an extension of the journey—a comfortable, social environment where fellow travelers quickly become friends, destination experts provide context before arrival, and every flight feels like part of the adventure rather than simply transportation.
On the ground, the experiences are equally intentional. Depending on the operator and itinerary, guests may enjoy private cultural access, exclusive events, expert-guided touring, or accommodations at some of the world’s most celebrated hotels.
When speaking with clients, I encourage advisors to move beyond features and instead tell the story of a single day. Help them imagine waking up in one country, exploring somewhere they’ve dreamed about for decades, enjoying dinner beneath another skyline, and never once thinking about baggage claims, boarding passes, or airport delays.
One morning, I woke up in the heart of the bush, packed my suitcase, and left it in my room knowing I wouldn’t see it again until that evening. I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, headed out for one last game drive, and returned to find everything had already been taken care of. A short time later, we were boarding our aircraft and leaving one extraordinary destination behind for another.
By that evening, we had landed hundreds of miles away, settled into a completely different lodge, and were sitting down to dinner as if the logistics between those two places had simply disappeared.
That’s the real product.
Not Every Private Jet Journey Is the Same
One mistake advisors sometimes make is assuming every operator offers essentially the same experience.
They don’t.
Understanding those differences is one of the easiest ways to demonstrate your value.
- TCS World Travel has been operating private jet expeditions for decades and offers one of the broadest collections of itineraries in the industry. Their operational experience and destination diversity make them an excellent fit for travelers seeking ambitious, multi-continent journeys.
- Four Seasons naturally appeals to clients already loyal to the brand. The familiarity of Four Seasons service, combined with custom-designed aircraft and exceptional accommodations, creates an experience that feels both elevated and reassuring.
- Abercrombie & Kent brings decades of expedition and safari expertise to its private jet journeys. Travelers who value cultural immersion, expert guides, and destination depth often find themselves particularly drawn to the A&K experience.
- National Geographic Expeditions attracts intellectually curious travelers through its emphasis on storytelling, science, photography, and exploration, often featuring renowned experts and photographers throughout the journey.
You don’t need to memorize every departure.
You simply need enough familiarity to recognize which experience aligns best with a particular client’s travel style.
⚠️ Please Note: Knowing the subtle differences between operators like TCS, Four Seasons, and A&K is what separates a booking agent from a true luxury travel advisor. Match the operator’s brand ethos to your client’s specific travel personality.
Your Next Private Jet Client May Already Be in Your Database
One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding private jet journeys is that the clients are somehow elusive.
In many cases, they’re already sitting in your CRM.
Think about the clients who consistently travel in business class, reserve suites on luxury cruises, take multiple international trips each year, or return from safari already asking what comes next.
Consider the couple celebrating retirement after decades of building a business.
The family looking for a once-in-a-lifetime multigenerational journey.
The expedition cruiser who’s already been to Antarctica and the Arctic.
These are often the conversations worth having.
Outside your existing client base, I’ve found some of the strongest referral relationships come from trusted professionals who serve affluent clients every day—wealth managers, estate planning attorneys, family offices, and private bankers. They often know when someone reaches a meaningful life milestone long before that individual begins researching travel.
Content also plays an important role.
Educational articles, presentations, and conversations about what these journeys actually are tend to attract exactly the right audience. By the time those prospects reach out, they’re often less interested in whether they should take a private jet journey and more interested in which one is right for them.
Five Ways to Get Started
- Request current catalogs and departure schedules from the operators you intend to represent, and familiarize yourself with their signature itineraries.
- Identify a small group of existing clients who already fit the profile, and start a conversation rooted in curiosity rather than a sales pitch.
- Attend supplier trainings, webinars, and, when available, FAM opportunities. Even touring a local FBO can dramatically improve how you describe the experience.
- Understand each operator’s commission structure, terms, and advisor resources through your preferred supplier relationships, host agency, or consortium.
- Create educational content that helps clients understand the category itself. The more informed your audience becomes, the more qualified your inquiries tend to be.
Take It to the Next Level
Once you’ve built a solid foundation, there’s one strategy that can dramatically accelerate your success: leverage your supplier partnerships.
Your business development managers want to help you grow, and many are eager to present directly to qualified audiences. Invite them to speak at a client appreciation event, country club, yacht club, luxury real estate office, wealth management firm, museum, upscale wine bar, or private dining experience. Organizations such as alumni associations, philanthropic groups, retired executive networks, and other affluent social organizations can also make excellent audiences.
Position the event as an educational experience rather than a sales presentation. Let your supplier bring the stories, photography, destination expertise, and firsthand knowledge while you do what you do best: build relationships, facilitate meaningful conversations, and identify the clients who are ready to take the next step.
Remember, your suppliers are invested in your success. They already have the expertise, resources, and compelling stories. By bringing them into the room, you’re creating value for your clients while positioning yourself as the trusted advisor who connected them with an opportunity they may never have discovered otherwise.
More Than Luxury
It’s easy to think private jet journeys are about exclusivity.
In reality, they’re about freedom.
Freedom from logistics.
Freedom from wasted time.
Freedom to experience more of the world with less friction.
As luxury advisors, our greatest value isn’t simply knowing where to send our clients. It’s understanding how they want to experience the world, then helping them do so in ways they may never have imagined.
Private jet journeys represent one of the clearest expressions of that philosophy.
At the end of the day, we aren’t simply selling aircraft or hotels.
We’re helping clients spend more time doing what they traveled halfway around the world to do.
That’s a luxury that never goes out of style.
